“Every great advance in science has issued from a new audacity of the imagination.”
- John Dewey
Convergent technologies are based on the science and engineering of biomaterials and are a part of biomedical research in health innovation and product creation. Research in this field is particularly important for the advancements in biomedical devices (BMDs), which provide creative ways to support and enhance patients’ quality of life all over the world. Some of the methods used to enhance the clinical performance of implantable BMDs include biofabrication of tissue constructs, the use of novel biomaterials and logical biomaterial design approaches, surface engineering of implants, point-of-care diagnostics and micro/nanobased biosensors, intelligent drug delivery systems, and noninvasive imaging techniques. Advanced materials with great research and commercial promise include polymeric, ceramic, carbon, supramolecular, peptide, and DNA-based biomaterials can be utilized for drug delivery, scaffolding, soft tissue, photonic, and sensing applications in India. Convergent technologies from the developing fields of nanotechnology, bioelectronics/ sensors, and stem cell and tissue engineering are now recognized as opening up new paths that have the potential to change the field of biomedical research. The development of cutting-edge medical technology and the provision of remedies for the widespread chronic disorders that currently jeopardize human health will be made possible in large part by this integrated cross-disciplinary research strategy. According to this viewpoint, major areas of attention that will be thoroughly investigated by 2035 include emerging fields including regenerative medicine, nanomedicine, stem cell treatments, immunomodulation, and tiny medical devices. For the modern physician’s portfolio active research life is an essential component to improve scientific knowledge, implement clinical treatment protocols, and promote high-quality, evidence-based service provision for the communities that we serve.
