Genetics plays a vital role in different fields of dentistry restorative, implantology, prosthetic, and regenerative dentistry. It is useful for the classification and diagnosis of oral diseases, along with the treatment of patients. Various genetic factors influence decision-making and outcomes in restorative dentistry, impacting material selection, bonding effectiveness, restoration longevity, and individual patient responses to procedures involving enamel and dentin. Genetic screening is helping in improving pediatric dental care for children born with abnormalities, such as cleft lip and palate, and hypodontia. Advancements in genetics and molecular biology have led to new insights into the etiopathogenesis of numerous disorders affecting the oral cavity. Dentists should know about the innovative scope in the fi eld of genetic screening and genetic medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders.
